Julien Durand - Château de Pizay

March 4 2012 - A walk in the Beaujolais

30 minutes north of Lyon commences the Beaujolais, a modest wine region when compared with its noble northern neighbor, the Burgundy. It is however close enough to Lyon to share some affinity in terms of cuisine.

In this terroir on the slopes of beautiful hills grows the humble gamay grape.

The Château of Pizay lies in the territory of Morgon, one of the ten appellations of Beaujolais. One of the distinctive features of this Château is its beautiful garden which evokes the Queen's garden of Alice in Wonderland.

Artichokes, gnocchi, cured ham, parmigiano crisps, rocket salad

Foie gras, (rubarb, speculoos?)

Red mullet

Pear, caramel

In this region between Burgundy and the Rhône where michelin starred restaurants are legion, it is extremely satisfying to find a quiet and remote place where you can enjoy great food with wines from the domain.
